I wrote this poem after watching a documentary on Ruth Bader Ginsburg which left me thinking about all the women; in history and all spheres of public life (during my own youth and adulthood), who pushed forward and made my path easier. From Madonna to Dianne Abbott, Joan of Arc to Angela Merkel, Tina Turner to Greta Thunberg, Susan Sarandon to Emma Watson; women who led the way in breaking boundaries (whatever that boundary might be) and speaking their mind. This stunning illustration by Maurizio Ferrari really captures the essence of the poem and strength of women globally who fight for freedoms, safety and the wellbeing of others.

The Witch In Me

A little lighter, but still changing the narrative. This poem plays on the historical persecution of women as 'witches', versus respect for the power and magic of the female gender. I feel immense satisfaction when groups and individuals reclaim and reappropriate the derogatory terms used against them.

Shockingly, this poem has been identified by readers as the most personally relatable poem of my first poetry collection; a concerning reflection of present-day hidden abuse in interpersonal relationships. Inspired by two strong women in my own life, The Narcissist depicts a story of overcoming the impact of demeaning, manipulative and physically abusive behaviour to reclaim independence, confidence and freedom.
